Back in July of 2019, Microsoft made it official: Microsoft Teams will replace Skype for Business Online. While this decision’s effect has no impact on standard Skype and Skype for Business Server, it means that users will be unable to log into Skype for Business Online after July 31, 2021. For now, Skype for Business Online users can continue to use the service. Since September of 2019, new Microsoft 365 customers have been directly onboarded to Teams for calling, meetings, and chat in preparation for the coming migration. CallCabinet customers who integrate CallCabinet with Skype for Business Online will need to migrate as well. In this article we’ll talk about why Microsoft Teams is an excellent choice for Unified Communications and how the process of migrating works.

How Do I Migrate to Microsoft Teams In CallCabinet?

CallCabinet Users integrated with Skype for Business Online will need to decide how to address their Unified Communications needs by 2021. While they’re free to choose any platform on the market, Microsoft Teams is more than just the natural choice for Skype for Business users. With over 115 million active users, it’s rapidly growing to become the UC solution of choice worldwide. While the process of changing integrations is fairly straightforward and performed with help from CallCabinet support, customers are still left with some questions about migrating their call recording operation as they move forward. Let’s tackle the most commonly asked questions.

Can I Record Microsoft Teams Calls?

If you’re a CallCabinet user, the answer is absolutely, yes. We’ve partnered with Microsoft to develop what we know to be the easiest to deploy, most seamless, and most secure Microsoft Teams call recording platform available globally.

Will Recording to Microsoft Teams Cost Me More?

CallCabinet continues to offer CallCabinet as a SaaS. One of CallCabinet’s defining features is that customers only pay for the licenses they want when they want them and license pricing is the same regardless of what telephony or UCaaS system is in use. CallCabinet provides recording and feature licenses to customers regardless of what integration they use or migrate to. This means all of your existing CallCabinet licenses will transfer seamlessly to your Teams integration.

Can I Still Record Skype For Business Calls?

You can continue to record Skype for Business Online calls with CallCabinet until July 31, 2021. After that date, Microsoft will discontinue the Skype for Business Online service.

What Are the Risks of Switching to Microsoft Teams?

Good news: while many companies and organizations understandably resist moving communication platforms because it’s typically a formidable challenge; however, with CallCabinet integration there are no risks in switching your CallCabinet platform from Skype for Business Online to Microsoft Teams.

Recording Microsoft Teams Calls With CallCabinet Lowers Risk

Recording calls in Microsoft Teams with CallCabinet results in a more secure recording and storage method than previously available in Skype for Business Online. This is not because of CallCabinet but rather because migrating to Microsoft Teams means you’re moving from an on-premise UCaaS solution (Skype for Business) to a fully Cloud-based environment. CallCabinet can then capture and store calls where they originate, right in the Azure Cloud.

Migration of your CallCabinet platform from Skype for Business is virtually a non-risk, but as a general aside, there are some employee risks to watch out for. Over 80% of employees admit to using Shadow IT methods. This is typically because people are resistant to changes in practices that might interrupt their standard workflow. This can be especially true of the remote workforce, which is another reason CallCabinet and Microsoft Teams are an outstanding choice for compliance recording. Both are easy to deploy on-site or for remote workers and make for an incredibly secure call data flow.

What Will I Need To Migrate Call Recording From Skype for Business To Microsoft Teams?

Deploying CallCabinet for Microsoft Teams

CallCabinet for Microsoft Teams is deployed within hours with the help of our CallCabinet support staff. While CallCabinet for Teams is an entirely separate integration from your previous Skype for Business integration, all of your CallCabinet assets (recorded calls, users, roles, analytics, and other CallCabinet data) are dedicated to your account, not your integration. This means all your CallCabinet assets will carry forward seamlessly when you migrate. CallCabinet remains your single platform to view and manage all your call recordings and quality tools.

CallCabinet provides a simple checklist and procedure to walk you through deploying Microsoft Teams recording. It’s important to realize when moving your recordings to the Azure fabric through CallCabinet that you have a choice of how to capture your Teams call audio.
